Our girls play in a hybrid team alongside Matlock and Ashbourne RFC calling ourselves the Derbyshire Dragons. During the 23/24 season we enjoyed a full programme of fixtures giving our players regular 15 a-side game-time in a consistent team. We've been able to play competitive games against all the established clubs in NLD, and also reaching out to nearby clubs from Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Staffs. Five of our players have been selected to represent their club as part of the NLD area England Rugby Developing Player Programme.
This year we secured sponsorship from CW Sellors the jewellers for a new set of player shirts designed by the girls to reflect the Derbyshire flag colours, and we had our first tour taking the Dragons to Anglesey.
We took part in the first NLD Girls Conference Cup competition this season and smashed it, coming second place runners up. 23/24 has been the strongest season yet for our girls' section and we hope to continue the momentum into 24/25. We’ve already secured a full programme of fixtures for next season.
The playing season is now over, and we are now running summer activities including free taster sessions for all new players who want to find out about the sport before we start back into the new season in September. We are always happy to welcome new players and volunteers into the teams. Come and find us training at the club on Thursday nights 1830 to 2000, contact us through the club or call the team manager, Rich on 07803 033970 for more information.
